At NNG LCC I got the request from our client Mazda to redesign the in car navigation system for their next generation models. The main goal was to adapt to the new hardware controls, design language and implement our state of the art navigation system. Leading the design team we visited the Mazda headquarters at Hiroshima and held multiple workshops with the client.
I used multiple methods for validating our designs from simple user interviews, to moderated eye-tracking (car driving simulator) sessions. While gathering all the feedback I kept close contact with Mazda and we did fast iterations to align our design to the outcomes of our testing. Keeping close contact we delivered the new navigation system which is now live for multiple years in the new Mazda models.
Once we had our stable version we started to apply Mazdas’ UI guidelines to our designs. The design team created multiple high fidelity prototypes and I arranged multiple user testing sessions to check if we are going the right direction. I managed to include many design thinking methods into the product development process. Validated our design with various user-testing methods. Not to mention that we delivered a great product and now having many happy end-users.
